AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT ::  The ADA was enacted under P.L. 101-336 in 1990.  It prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in employment, State and local government services, public accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation. It also mandates the establishment of TDD/telephone relay services.  Here are resources to assist you in better understanding this Act.
         

ADA Compliance Guides

ADA Guide for Small Businesses.  Presents an overview of some basic ADA requirements for small businesses that provide goods and services to the public. It provides guidance on how to make their services accessible and how tax credits and deductions may be used to offset specific costs.
 
Guide to Disability Rights and Laws.  A booklet describing federal laws that prohibit discrimination and establish the rights of people with disabilities to live a life of independence and dignity in the mainstream of America.
 
ADA Questions and Answers.  Published by the EEOC, this document provides information to assist you in understanding what the ADA is all about.  
 
ADA Title III Technical Assistance Manual.  Addresses the requirements of Title III of the ADA, which applies to public accommodations, commercial facilities, and private entities offering certain examinations and courses.  Explains in lay terms what businesses and non-profit agencies must do to ensure access to their goods, services, and facilities. Refer also to the Title III Yearly Supplements.
