  Employment Law Guide: Laws, Regulations, and Technical Assistance Services.  This Guide describes the statutes and regulations administered by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) that affect businesses and workers. The Guide is designed mainly for those needing "hands-on" information to develop wage, benefit, safety and health, and nondiscrimination policies for businesses in general industry.
 
     
  IRS Guide to Hiring Employees.  This web site was developed by the IRS specifically for businesses like yours.  It provides an overview of your responsibilities as an employer, and features several publications to assist your company in meeting tax requirements.
 
     
  SSA Employer Reporting Instructions and Information.  A service of the Social Security Administration, this web site guides employers through the Federal wage reporting requirements.  The site now features a service permitting employers to transmit employee wage reports over the Internet to the SSA.
 
     
  National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM).  Issued under Executive Order 12829 and the National Industrial Security Program (NISP), this manual provides valuable guidance to contractors on government policies and procedures for handling security matters.  Refer the NISPOM for direction on such matters as personnel and facility clearances for contracts involving classified government information.
 
     
  Guide to Disability Rights and Laws.  A booklet describing federal laws that prohibit discrimination and establish the rights of people with disabilities to live a life of independence and dignity in the mainstream of America.
 
     
  Ergonomics.  This is an issue that has gained a lot of attention in recent years.  OSHA promotes standards in the design of work spaces to fit the health and safety needs of the people who use them.  The OSHA Ergonomics web site provides information on the latest developments in ergonomics compliance requirements.  Includes section on Ergonomics assistance for small businesses.
 
     
  Small Business Drug and Alcohol Workplace Kit.  Hosted by the Department of Labor, this is an excellent starting point for implementing a drug and alcohol policy program in the workplace.
 
     
  OSHA Help for New Businesses.  This website provides access to the most popular materials for small businesses, from free on-site consultation to interactive computer software to technical information to easy-to-follow guides for specific OSHA standards. It also includes links to OSHA local offices and the Small Business Administration.
 
     
  OSHA Handbook for Small Businesses.  This booklet was written to assist small business employers to meet the legal requirements imposed by and under, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.
 
     
  OSHA Construction Resource Manual.  Presented to assist employers and workers in providing safe and healthful workplaces for construction employees. This publication gives employers and workers information, in a single source, on all of OSHA requirements for the construction industry.
 
     
  Simple Retirement Solutions for Small Businesses.  Published by the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration (PWBA), this is a short pamphlet explaining options available to very small and early stage businesses in regard to starting a retirement plan for workers.
 
     
  Emergency Management Guide for Business and Industry.  Issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), this publication is designed to assist business personnel in preparing for unplanned events that can potentially disrupt business operations, cause serious harm to employees, or cause damage to property (e.g., hurricanes, fire, bombings, earthquakes, and blizzards.)   Note: the guidance in this manual is practical, not mandated by law.
 
     
  Davis-Bacon Wage Determinations.  The wage determination data contained on this web site are issued by the U.S. Department of Labor under the Davis-Bacon and related Acts. The Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor determines prevailing wage rates to be paid on federally funded or assisted construction projects. 
 
     
  FormsAssistant. Government contractors who hire foreign nationals to work on projects may find this service useful.  It provides online access to employment, immigration, passport, social security and tax forms applicable to the immigration hiring and reporting requirements.  Note that this site does not provide help in the form selection process.  It only offers technical assistance in filling out forms.
 
     
  SelectaRetirementPlan.org.  Sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Merrill Lynch, this web site provides an interactive tool for selecting the right retirement plan for you and your employees.  This site also features links to resources about retirement plans.
